This is in Black Rock, Nevada, on my way back from the Burning Man extreme arts festival. The flat playa makes it possible to create a city in the desert, and then remove it, leaving no trace. So many thousands of people attend that I got up before dawn (NOT my usual pattern) to try to minimize the hours of waiting to exit, merging into one lane only. But the beautiful light made it almost worth it.

This is a roadside glimpse of shadows, so easy to find in Arizona, so much harder up here in Seattle. It was almost like artwork on the walls, I thought. Take a look at other interesting views of shadows HERE.

I had some time to take a walk in downtown Seattle yesterday and caught this iconic sign over our famous Pike’s Place Market on Puget Sound just as the sun went down. Not a very showy sky, but still, it’s the sky that makes the shot. If you ever visit Seattle, this place is a must. And for more thrilling skies around the entire world, click HERE.

I took this in Portland a while ago, at the Japanese Garden. What could be more watery than rain AND a lake? For more Watery Wednesday photos from everywhere, click HERE.

Just two short weeks ago I took this on a walk around the block. Now the wind has taken them all. But they were so beautiful while they lasted. Almost like a flower that way. A famous old quote says, “The beauty of the rose is that it blows, and goes.” For more ideas about ruby red around the world, click HERE.

Was in Carefree AZ this week and they sure have great shadows there. For more intriguing shadows around the world, click HERE.

I was away at a conference in Carefree Arizona and had a window seat both ways. Here is a view of clouds we don’t usually see. For more photos of skies everywhere, click HERE.

I took this photo of begonias out back in my last garden in August 07. They are good plants, never needing their faded flowers picked off (deadheading), and blooming their heads off for months. This one even made it over our Seattle winter a couple of years, but it was heavily mulched, it’s true. I’ll have to plant some here in a shady spot.

I’m going on a trip to Arizona today for a conference so I won’t be near my computer for a few days. If anyone leaves a comment, be sure I will read it and visit your site when I return. I plan to sneak away at least a little bit and take photos, of course!

Thought I’d try a new meme, Scenic Sunday (click HERE). Lord knows there are plenty of photos to choose from. Since I’ve been taking a camera everywhere for as long as I can remember, I have one or two photos. I wish I could throw some out. Digital makes me take far more, but at least helps organize easily. This one is scanned from a film print, taken in ‘01 in Bodega Head, California. There are two little people on the rocks. Hope you like it.

I took this photo over ten years ago at Pt. Reyes beach in Northern California. It was a beautiful day and this photo expresses my feelings that day very well. For more skies around the world, click HERE.

I took this photo off Coleman Valley Road near Occidental, in Northern California, so long ago, but I came across it and wanted to share it. The road is very curvy, the view like nothing in the world (although I have heard that landscape compared to the Cornish England area) and sometimes the fog filled up the low parts like this. Have you ever seen anything like it?

This is a morning view of Pyramid Lake in Nevada. Can you see the pyramid?
I’ve linked to a bigger one after requests but haven’t figured out how to get the medium size one to show here instead of the tiny one. Sorry! So click on the little one for a better view.

I just love the way the water droplets (this is Seattle, after all) look like rubies on the leaves. This was on a walk just a week or two ago. At least I got the bulbs planted before the recent deluge.

I’ve learned that fuchsias (the late, long-time San Francisco columnist Herb Caen called them the world’s most carefully spelled flower!) require a steady diet of fertilizer to bloom well. So I finally was generous with the plant food, and look what happened! For more beautiful flowers from around the world, click HERE.

Maybe it’s because I just finished planting over 400 spring bulbs, but tulips are on my mind. These tulips are so happy in the bright sun and shadows they cast. For more ways to see shadows, click HERE.
